Urban NDNs
When I was living in Minneapolis, cityscapes constantly appeared in my work.
Because of the sense of community, and the strong Native presence in the Cities, I was always aware of how the city had been built upon the suffering of tribes, whether through the economic exploitation of labor, or by the extraction of resources from tribal lands, or simply in its continued operations to ignore the pains of modern living felt by all urban dwellers, but perhaps especially by Natives who have been alienated from their own lands.
How many layers of concrete and steel lie between City NDNs and the earth beneath their feet?
"Urban NDNs" acrylic on paper, 35" by 23" mounted on 1/2" thick cardboard with grey trim and shrinkwrapped. The paper was too thin, so it has wrinkled some. I will be doing more of these later on. This one is available for sale for $500.
